Week in Review Volume

by Rod Keller [rkeller@voicenet.com]
copyright 1999

Alt.religion.scientology Week in Review summarizes the most significant postings from the Usenet group Alt.religion.scientology for the preceding week for the benefit of those who can't follow the group as closely as they'd like. Out of thousands of postings, I attempt to include news of significant events, new affidavits, court rulings, new contributors, whatever. I hope you find it useful. Like many readers of a.r.s, I have a kill file. So please take into consideration that I may not have seen some of the most significant postings.

The articles in A.r.s Week in Review are brief summaries of articles posted to the newsgroup. They include message IDs for the original articles, and many have a URL to get more information. You may be able to find the original article, depending on how long your site stores articles in the newsgroup before expiring them.

Free A.r.s Week in Review subscriptions are available, just email me at rkeller@voicenet.com. Subscriptions are also available on ONElist. Email weekinreview-subscribe@onelist.com or see http://www.onelist.com Week in Review is archived at: http://www.xenu.net/archive/WIR/ http://wpxx02.toxi.uni-wuerzburg.de/~krasel/CoS/ars-summary.html

Criminal Time Track: Issue II (long)

Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 21:10:53 -0800
From: "Safe ... www.fza.org" <Safe@scientology.at>
Organization: Lightlink Internet
Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology,alt.clearing.technology

(I'm posting Issue II of the Criminal Time Track for "Theta." There is a lot more data here which fills in many blanks. It paints a clear picture and data starts falling into place. That's a good sign one is on the line of truth. If you know any more history you can add, please email it to me.

Note: This is actually a good summary of events. The only disadvantage is that it doesn't give the data sources.

Criminal Time Track: Issue III (updated)

  • Issue III makes corrections to Issue II, including any from the Church that are true.

  • A list of sources are attached and assigned a number.

  • The number at the end of a time track entry tells you the source of that data.

IRS

On 1 October 1993, the Church of Scientology obtained tax exemption from the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This ended 26 years of what the Church itself has described as a "war" against the IRS, in which it used extraordinary and in many cases illegal tactics - bugging of government offices, theft of mountains of classified files, private detectives pursuing senior government officials, thousands of lawsuits, full-page attack adverts in US daily newspapers, and so on.

So perhaps it is not such a great surprise that the settlement itself came about in some very unusual circumstances, raising questions about the actions of both the Church of Scientology and the IRS. Neither party has been willing to provide answers, with the IRS refusing to disclose the terms of the exemption agreement in defiance of a court order and US taxation law. But with the leak in December 1997 of the secret agreement, the relationship between Scientology and the IRS is under greater scrutiny now than ever before.

These pages, whilst not making a judgement on whether the Church legitimately earned its tax exemption, are intended to be a clearing house for reports and court records on the Scientology vs IRS controversy.

Krenik, Patricia

Hi, Everyone!
I go by Tigerlily on the internet, but who I am is no secret. The essay below is rather long, because it was written to win a $10,000 prize, but it didn't win. Still, there is a lot in there worth reading. It tells a little about my life as I was immersed in Scientology (tm) but mostly it focused on LRH, what I knew of him, and some things in the Church policies which I consider non-optimum. If I were writing my own story it would have been much different, but I was attempting to fulfill the requirements of the essay contest. I spent thirty years in Scientology (tm) and was trained to Class VI auditor, St. Hill Special Briefing Course Graduate, and Ethics Specialist Course Graduate. Many people are more highly trained than I am, but I do feel I have a balance. That is useful, so many get only one aspect when they go through training. Read below if you have time, if not, skip it.:)

Miscavige, David:  IAS speech, 8 October 1993

On 8 October 1993, the man who effectively controls Scientology - David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of the Religious Technology Center - gave a speech to the 9th anniversary event of the International Association of Scientologists. 10,000 members of the International Association of Scientologists had gathered in the Los Angeles Sports Arena to hear Miscavige announce a spectacular victory: after 30 years of conflict with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Church of Scientology (CoS) had won complete tax exemption for all of its 150 US entities. The following is a transcript of Miscavige's speech. A partial version was printed in issue 32 of International Scientology News. It makes extraordinary reading.

Phoenix Undead

The Montauk Project and Camp Hero Today: Part 2, Copyright © 1998, John A. Quinn/NewsHawk Inc

INTRODUCTION: I have already written and disseminated one report on the covert government's secret electromagnetic/radio frequency mind control project based at a documented subterranean facility beneath the derelict Montauk Air Force Station, at the extreme east end of Long Island's south fork. These activities, an outgrowth of some very esoteric research directly linked to the (in)famous "Philadelphia Experiment" (Project Rainbow--later Phoenix) and both the interdimensional and psychotronic (linking mind to machine [computer]) ramifications of this work, reached literally heretofore unimaginable levels of human (technological) control over the parameters of our"reality" in the Montauk experiments; including all conceivable implications of that word. As has been stated by others, the masterminds behind the Montauk/Phoenix Project attempted to "play God".
